Afghanistan is often called a quagmire by American media and politicians. The alienness of the society and the seemingly intractable nature of its problems paralyze us and scare us from away understanding. Wading into the Quagmire is my deliberate attempt to fight this attitude and to begin to disentangle some of the confusion. Rather than shying away from the complexity, I’m plunging in. This blog is a record of my ongoing attempt to educate myself, and I hope that it can serve as a starting place for others who are curious or concerned about what is so vaguely called “the situation in Afghanistan”.
My name is Anna. I’m an undergrad at Yale University, and a member of the Yale Afghanistan Forum. My posts can also be read on the YAF blog. My opinions, of course, are my own.
